Setting Goals
I want to talk about setting goals. Whether you’re setting goals for your corporation (yearly goals), individual goals, parental goals for your children. Something I’ve learned since I was a little kid from my father was to sit down the 1st of each year and write down 5 goals. As a child I was kind of annoyed with this exercise, I didn’t really see the purpose. As I got older I realized that setting your attention to goals puts something inside of you to keep trying and keep growing.
As a corporation, whether you’re a big global organization or a small entrepreneurial founder trying to build, setting goals has a powerful effect. It helps us to focus and set our intentions in a positive way. It also helps us focus to get things done, to organize us, and to sift through chaos. When we set goals it allows us to assess where we are at, where we want to be at, and what we can do to get there. It also helps us to decide on how we are going to achieve our goal, what do we need to accomplish, what ethics and compliance goals are we going to put into place.
Setting goals for me has been something I’ve learned from early on while watching my mom and dad as a kid. They would always set personal and professional goals. In my life, I try to do both. For me it’s one long list. My personal and professional lives are inextricably linked. I find it easier to do it all in 1 list. I also do physical, spiritual, and mental goals.
I want to achieve a higher level of self-care. How many more minutes of meditation can I do per day. Have I fallen off the wagon when it comes to meditation? During the holidays I would say I have. And that’s okay, it’s part of daily life.
2021 has just started. We are so blessed to be here to get a new year and to get a new start. Let’s set some awesome goals for ourselves both personally and professionally, as parents, as community members, for social justice. However you want to give back to your community to help others is an important responsibility we have.
What goals are you setting for 2021?
